dixitque Dominus ad Samuhel usquequo tu luges Saul cum egoproiecerim eum ne regnet super Israhel imple cornu tuum oleo etveni ut mittam te ad Isai Bethleemitem providi enim in filiiseius mihi regem

et ait Samuhel quomodo vadam audiet enim Saul etinterficiet me et ait Dominus vitulum de armento tolles in manutua et dices ad immolandum Domino veni

16:3
et vocabis Isai ad victimam et ego ostendam tibi quidfacias et ungues quemcumque monstravero tibi

16:4
fecit ergo Samuhel sicut locutus est ei Dominus venitque inBethleem et admirati sunt seniores civitatis occurrentes eidixeruntque pacificus ingressus tuus

16:5
et ait pacificus ad immolandum Domino veni sanctificaminiet venite mecum ut immolem sanctificavit ergo Isai et filioseius et vocavit eos ad sacrificium

16:6
cumque ingressi essent vidit Heliab et ait num coram Dominoest christus eius

16:7
et dixit Dominus ad Samuhel ne respicias vultum eius nequealtitudinem staturae eius quoniam abieci eum nec iuxta intuitumhominis iudico homo enim videt ea quae parent Dominus autemintuetur cor

et vocavit Isai Abinadab et adduxit eum coram Samuhel quidixit nec hunc elegit Dominus

adduxit autem Isai Samma de quo ait etiam hunc non elegitDominus

adduxit itaque Isai septem filios suos coram Samuhel etait Samuhel ad Isai non elegit Dominus ex istis

dixitque Samuhel ad Isai numquid iam conpleti sunt filiiqui respondit adhuc reliquus est parvulus et pascit oves et aitSamuhel ad Isai mitte et adduc eum nec enim discumbemuspriusquam ille huc venerit

misit ergo et adduxit eum erat autem rufus et pulcheraspectu decoraque facie et ait Dominus surge ungue eum ipse estenim

tulit igitur Samuhel cornu olei et unxit eum in mediofratrum eius et directus est spiritus Domini in David a dieilla et in reliquum surgensque Samuhel abiit in Ramatha

16:14
spiritus autem Domini recessit a Saul et exagitabat eumspiritus nequam a Domino

16:15
dixeruntque servi Saul ad eum ecce spiritus Dei malusexagitat te

16:16
iubeat dominus noster et servi tui qui coram te suntquaerant hominem scientem psallere cithara ut quando arripueritte spiritus Dei malus psallat manu sua et levius feras

16:17
et ait Saul ad servos suos providete mihi aliquem benepsallentem et adducite eum ad me

16:18
et respondens unus de pueris ait ecce vidi filium IsaiBethleemitem scientem psallere et fortissimum robore et virumbellicosum et prudentem in verbis et virum pulchrum et Dominusest cum eo

16:19
misit ergo Saul nuntios ad Isai dicens mitte ad me Davidfilium tuum qui est in pascuis

16:20
tulitque Isai asinum plenum panibus et lagoenam vini ethedum de capris unum et misit per manum David filii sui Saul

16:21
et venit David ad Saul et stetit coram eo at ille dilexiteum nimis et factus est eius armiger

16:22
misitque Saul ad Isai dicens stet David in conspectu meoinvenit enim gratiam in oculis meis

16:23
igitur quandocumque spiritus Dei arripiebat Saul tollebatDavid citharam et percutiebat manu sua et refocilabatur Saul etlevius habebat recedebat enim ab eo spiritus malus

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

016:002
And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

016:003
And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

016:004
And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

016:005
And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

016:006
And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.

016:007
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

016:008
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

016:009
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

016:010
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

016:011
And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

016:012
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

016:013
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

016:014
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

016:015
And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

016:016
Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

016:017
And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

016:018
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

016:019
Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

016:020
And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

016:021
And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

016:022
And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight.

016:023
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
